Ten years ago today America entered a new era. That was when Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris decided to celebrate Hitler’s birthday by stalking the halls of Columbine High School in suburban Denver and mercilessly gun down 12 classmates and a teacher before showing just how cowardly evil always is and taking their own lives.

Our country has never been the same.

True, six years and a day earlier 75 followers of David Koresh and their leader were massacred in Waco. Two years to the day later, Timothy McVeigh blew up the Alfred P. Murrah building in OK City. But while those two heinous incidents will forever live in infamy, they weren’t the type of atrocity Columbine was, where our own citizens began blasting away at others of us for no apparent reason. Since then, America has been inundated with nearly countless copy-cat types of evil. Within only the past couple of weeks, Daily Promises noted how at least three such instances have happened in the U.S. in the past month alone. Heaven help us, such murder has become common place.

Well, Heaven does want to help us. While God will not deliver this lost world before its time, He will take care of some of us until our appointed time. Today, God promises us from Isaiah 54:17 that (insertion mine), “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment (I) shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of The Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says The Lord.

All of us who serve The Lord by sewing righteousness in our own, unique way have a Promise right here from God stating that no less than He will protect us and defend us. It doesn’t mean that all of us will live out our days in a rocking chair on the front porch of our dreams, but rather none of us shall perish until it is our time – meaning He says it’s time. Nothing and no one shall sabotage or circumvent our destiny in God. Period.

How? Because He gives us another Promise in Zechariah 4:6b, where Scripture declares how everything either happens, or is allowed to happen. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says The Lord of Hosts.

All hell can and is breaking loose all around us. Yet, we are not to fear, or even give place to such thoughts of terror. Since the inception of Daily Promises, the intent has been to emphasize the necessity of getting to know God first and foremost as your Father. That is how one establishes relationship with the ultimate source of power in the universe. As Easter clearly illustrates, there is a God, and He is living, and He is loving. So, to get to know Him enables us to live without fear (“Perfect love casts out fear.” – I John 4:18) and, therefore, to live abundantly.

I don’t know why some people died in that library, and some others in there were able to escape death on that terrible day 10 years ago on this date in Littleton, Colo. I certainly don’t have all the answers. I only know what The Spirit of God tells me and you for such times as these. How? What God is saying is in His Word, and as I study God’s Word, I know that I can take Him at His Word.

In so doing, His Word becomes alive and, therefore, applicable in my life. It’s the same for you if you so desire. Yes, you can live life without fear of any weapon formed against you prospering, because The Lord of Hosts will protect you by His Spirit.
